Whale Tail Brewery

Set just minutes from Casa LaVista in the heart of Uvita, Whale Tail Brewery brings Old World brewing craft to Costa Rica's Pacific coast. The brewery is the work of Italian brewmaster Gian Michelle Pace, who shipped his equipment more than 6,000 miles from the mountains of Abruzzo to open a jungle microbrewery in his adopted hometown — pairing time-honoured European techniques with the bold, tropical character of its surroundings.

The result is a small library of award-winning, identity-driven pints, each with its own profile of citrus, caramel, red fruit, spice, or honey. At the centre of it all sits the open-air Brew Pub, a modern take on the classic public house and the easiest table in Uvita to spend an afternoon or evening at. Pull up to the bar for a cold pour, share one of the brewery's celebrated wood-fired Italian-style pizzas on the patio, and settle in for a rotating calendar of trivia, live music, karaoke, and Latin nights — an unpretentious gathering spot where travellers and locals find each other over a pint.
